Overview
Learning disabilities impact how an individual understands and remembers information, and how they learn and communicate. Some people are born with learning disabilities, and others acquire them later in life. The way learning disabilities are experienced varies from person to person, but individuals may find it harder to learn and perform life skills such as reading, writing, personal care, and managing money. People with learning difficulties may, therefore, have difficulty living and coping independently.
This course will provide you with an overview of some of the common types and causes of learning disabilities and how they affect people. We will discuss how, as healthcare professionals, we have an important role to play in overcoming the stigma associated with learning disabilities. Further, we will discuss your legal responsibilities as a healthcare professional caring for people with learning disabilities, and how people with learning disabilities can be supported in a person-centered way.
Please take your time to complete this course. We anticipate this module will take you 30 – 40 minutes to complete. Once you have passed the accompanying assessment, you will receive a certificate of completion to be used to develop your portfolio alongside a record of your CPD credits.
