Empowering Rural Learning: Youth Future Lab Delivers Jangala Mi-Fi to BEST ICT Center, Murang’a
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Youth Future Lab (YFL) team embarked on an inspiring visit to the BEST ICT Center in the Mutunguru area of Murang’a County. The visit marked a significant milestone in bridging the digital divide for rural Kenyan youth through the donation and demonstration of the innovative Jangala Mi-Fi, an advanced internet solution generously donated by Nils, a friend of the YFL team from London, United Kingdom.

The objective of the visit was clear: to equip the BEST ICT Center with reliable, high-speed internet capable of transforming access to digital education. In areas like Mutunguru, where connectivity challenges often disrupt online learning, the Jangala Mi-Fi proved to be a game-changer.
Nils, the guest of honor, led a hands-on demonstration of the device, guiding participants through its simple installation and practical use. From setup to seamless browsing, the demonstration showcased the Mi-Fi’s robust performance—strong enough to support multiple users simultaneously without lag. This ensures uninterrupted online lessons, research, and digital skills training for students at the center.

The impact of the donation extended beyond the ICT center itself. Members of the BEST ICT team expressed enthusiasm about how the improved connectivity would strengthen their community programs and expand learning opportunities. For the YFL team, the event reinforced their mission of promoting digital inclusion.
“This is more than just a device; it’s a gateway to endless opportunities,” Joseph Wambua shared during the session.

Students were visibly excited, already envisioning smoother virtual classes, coding workshops, and opportunities for global collaboration—free from the frustration of dropped connections.
The day was filled with meaningful engagement. After the demonstration, participants captured the moment through group photos, celebrating a shared achievement. Several YFL members also conducted brief interviews with Nils, exploring his motivation for supporting digital access and the broader potential of technology in underserved communities.

A collaborative health discussion followed, bringing together insights from YFL, BEST ICT, and Nils on youth wellness topics, including balancing screen time, physical activity, and mental health in an increasingly digital world.
As the afternoon approached, the team enjoyed a well-deserved lunch break, sharing laughter and reflections on the day’s success. With activities concluded, the YFL team bid warm farewells and returned to Nairobi, carrying with them strengthened partnerships and renewed purpose.

This Jangala Mi-Fi donation stands as a powerful example of what collective action can achieve. Special appreciation goes to the YFL team for spearheading the initiative, to Nils for his invaluable contribution from abroad, and to Jangala for enabling connectivity where it matters most. Initiatives like this do more than deliver technology—they ignite hope and unlock brighter futures for Kenya’s rural youth.
