Course goals and objectives
- To enable participants to identify and differentiate between various types of behaviours (e.g., typical vs. challenging).
- To equip participants with the ability to analyze behavior using the ABC model (Antecedents, Behavior, Consequences).
- To foster an understanding of the underlying functions of behaviour (attention-seeking, escape/avoidance, tangible reinforcement, sensory stimulation).
- To enable participants to create structured, predictable, and supportive environments that minimize behavioral challenges.
- To equip participants with practical tools, such as positive reinforcement, clear communication, and visual supports.
- To provide participants with a repertoire of effective intervention techniques, including redirection, active listening, choice-making, and social stories.
- To guide participants in differentiating between effective strategies and techniques that may be harmful or ineffective.
- To encourage the development of strong, positive relationships between caregivers/educators and children based on trust, empathy, and respect.
- To encourage participants to recognize the importance of professional collaboration (e.g., with teachers, therapists, and other specialists).
- To guide participants in identifying when seeking professional help may be necessary.
