FMB Radio (FMB) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) registered in England and
Wales on 18 April 2019. It is a Nottingham based media production and online radio
broadcasting organisation. FMB helps individuals and organisations to capture, store and
share their stories and experiences creatively and factually while enabling them to amplify
their authentic voices thereby addressing issues affecting including meeting their goals and
objectives. These contents are in form of digital contents such as text, photos, videos,
podcasts and live / recorded radio broadcasting.
Our aim is to bridge the gaps in digital media and authentic voices especially, but not
exclusively, among young people and BME communities through:
1. Provision of spaces and resources for media contents production
2. Amplifying contents through online broadcasting and podcasting services
3. Developing digital skills gap through placements, mentoring and training programs
FMB is dedicated to building on Nottingham’s history of culture, creativity, innovation and in
establishing a sustainable safe space for minority communities to air their views, voices and
ideas through digital media. This will enable them to amplify their authentic voices and
challenging existing policies and perspectives in a constructive manner.
We want to become an organisation that is:

good one, and we will actively work to encourage continued engagement.
The board (board of directors) is responsible for defining and upholding the FMB’s mission,
vision, and values, and for providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the
organisation. Their duties include organisational development, governance and strategic
direction by overseeing both business plan development and its implementation. They are
also involved in fundraising efforts and spreading the word about our good work and using
their connections to gain access to potential donors and partners. This pack has been
prepared to help us recruit new board members.
We are seeking additional board members, who are keen to become active and energetic
champions of FMB and who also have expertise, connections and contacts with whom they
are willing to actively promote our organisation. The members should be passionate to
advocate our mission and determined to ensure professionalism, reliability and creativity in
To achieve the right blend of experience and knowledge of the organisation, FMB is looking
at bringing in fresh members to serve for a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms,
making it six years in total.
As the leaders and representatives of FMB, board members are responsible for planning,
funding, organisation, operations and audit of FMB. These responsibilities include: Ensure FMB is run in an ethical and legal manner, and implement good governance
practices that establish accountability
Support, provide direction to, and work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to
create a strategic direction for FMB and to set short- and long-term goals and policies
Assure that management continuity is properly provided
Approve appropriate compensation and benefit policies and practices
Annually evaluate the performance of the CEO and the management team
Annually review and evaluate the performance of FMB and the board and take steps
to improve their performance
FMB board members are professional and community members who serve a maximum two
consecutive terms of three years each. The participation requires that you: Attend 4 board meetings each year and be prepared to participate. Review, understand, and comment on minutes and reports submitted to the board. Ensure that effective policies and procedures are in place. Stay informed about FMBs mission, services, policies, and programs. Keep up to date on pertinent developments including those in the community,
economy, government, industry, etc. that may affect FMB. Participate actively in the board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts. Monitor organisations operations appropriately and effectively. As a volunteer you will not be paid but you will receive refund for travel and other
expenses that you may incur for and on behalf of FMB in your role as a board
The board plays an important role in FMB. We are looking for individuals who: Bring a variety of skills, experience, and diversity to FMB. Have backgrounds and contacts that differ from, but compliment, those of the other.

program areas. Are prepared to set aside any potential conflict between personal or individual
business interests to support the wellbeing of FMB. Have a developed sense of values and personal integrity. Are sensitive to and tolerant of views and opinions different from their own. Are friendly, responsive, and patient, and work well with individuals and groups. Can listen, analyse, and think clearly and creatively. Are not hesitant to ask questions. Are willing to prepare for and attend board and committee meetings. Will take responsibility and follow through on assignments. Are willing to contribute personal time and financial resources to FMB and to cultivate
and solicit outside funds. Can recruit board members and other volunteers. Are willing to develop the skills they need in order to be an effective board member
(e.g., the ability to read and understand financial statements)

Board member recruitment
FMB seeks individuals with expertise, interest and commitment to fill vacant volunteer board
Role: Member of the board of directors
Commitment: Approximately 6-10 days per year with additional reading and review
Remuneration: No remuneration is paid but all reasonable expenses are reimbursed
Term: 3 years initially with the possibility of one further 3-year term
Reporting: As a member, you report to The Board
To be considered, we are looking for people with social and commercial awareness,
strategic thinking and those with willingness and ability to be outstanding FMB advocates. A
general background in media, strategy, governance, finance, human resource, fundraising
and legal, would be useful.
