Social care and health go hand in hand with safeguarding, and the improvement and development of these fields starts with improving safeguarding. Safeguarding is an important aspect of social care and health because it is the foundation of all that happens in the fields. It is important to ensure that the world’s most vulnerable population is kept secure and safe, since it is susceptible to neglect, abuse, and harm. The population that is mostly considered in this context are the sick, the disabled, and the elderly.
The course delves into the issues of protection and safeguarding in social care and health. It also looks at different forms of abuse, how to identify abuse, respond to abuse, how to reduce abuse occurrence and understand what the law says bout protection and safeguarding from abuse, both locally, nationally and internationally.

Learning Outcomes
The outcomes expected after completion of the course are:
- Ability to identify signs of neglect and abuse
- Knowledge on how to react to supposed or alleged abuse
- Understand how to reduce incidences of abuse
- Understand local and national laws concerning protection and safeguarding from abuse
- Know how to identify and report dangerous practices
